Description
The Number Fun Bus Stop Cards are powerful tools for reasoning about number.
This set contains 54 different images of a single decker bus waiting at a bus stop! Each card has a different combination of boys and girls, on and off the bus, sitting down and standing up. These have proved to be powerful reasoning tools to help children explore basic number and calculation.
Ideas for Use:
1: As a class – look at one of the images on a screen and explore using open ended questioning, such as:
*What do you notice?
*How many children in the picture?
*How many empty seats on the bus?
*How many more boys than girls?
*What’s just happened (or is about to happen) at the bus stop?
*Why are the children standing up on the bus?
*How many more children are on the bus than are waiting at the bus stop?
*What will happen if there are too many children at the bus stop?
*What’s the same, what’s different?
*What do you think will happen next?
2: Children have an image of their own that they then explore and discuss with a trading partner.
3: Connection making – explore basic calculation and number properties
4: Act it out – use the cards as an inspiration for children making their own bus stop number and calculation stories.
