This set of Dice Cards shows all possible combinations of 1, 2, 3 and 4 dice in creating each total from 1 to 24.

Description

This set of cards shows all possible combinations of 1, 2, 3 and 4 dice in creating each total from 1 to 24.

The combinations of dice are ordered with respect to the number dice. (i.e. combinations with 2 dice are listed before combinations with 3 etc.)
The cards within each set are arranged systematically.  In each box, the ‘base dice’ (in the bottom right hand corner) always shows the highest value in each combination, followed by the dice the bottom left, top right and then top left respectively.  Once a combination is recorded, the next most efficient combination is explored whilst keeping this pattern in place.

Print out, cut up and laminate as required.

Ideas for Use:
1: Exploring different ways of making a number using the numbers 1 to 6.
2: Problem Solving: E.g. Find all possibilities of making 10 using up to 4 dice.
3: Reasoning: Are there more options for making 14 than 10?  Why?
4: Statistics – cut out the cards and arrange in a table, pictogram or block graph.  How many ways are there to make each number?  Can you see a pattern?
5: Five Dice: What numbers can you make or not make with 5 dice?  How many ways can you make 10 using 5 dice?  Record the options systematically.
