Description
This is an extensive set of Egg Box images (60 egg boxes in total) that explore different arrangements of 5, 6, 7 and 8 cubes in a tens frame.
For each number there are three sets of images:
1) Showing the number with one colour cube
2) Showing the number with 2 different coloured cubes
3) Showing the number with 3 different coloured cubes
(The egg boxes containing 7 and 8 cubes also show some options with 4 different coloured cubes)
Ideas for Use:
1: Trading Games – children each take an Egg Box card and trade with others. Children explore properties of number (as exemplified above), total, difference.
2: Reasoning Activities – e.g. ‘What’s the same, what’s different?’
3: Replicating Activities – children create the image using an egg box and cubes. Can they recreate the image accurately from memory? What properties are they mastering as they do so?
4: Subitising – children are shown an image and they state the number of cubes, the number of spaces and total spaces rapidly. E.g. 5, 5, 10 or 3, 7, 10
