Description
This set of Egg Box images explores two systematic ways of filling two egg boxes (tens frames) with cubes. Red and yellow cubes have been used to help children identify the numbers easily.
Set 1: ‘Tens Frame Style’ is the default mastery option that focuses on the idea of making 5 on route to making 10.
Set 2: ‘Number Frame Style’ is an alternative approach that fills the frame in 2s horizontally.
The final pages have empty egg boxes to represent zero.
Ideas for use:
1: Number Line – utilise these images as part of a classroom number line
2: Trading Activities – pairs discuss the images in their hands. What number is represented? What’s the same, what’s different? etc.
3: Replicating Activities – children create the image using an egg box and cubes. Can they recreate the image accurately from memory?
4: Subitising Flash Cards – children are shown an image and they state the number of cubes, the number of spaces and total spaces in the image rapidly. E.g. 5, 5, 10 or 13, 7, 20.
