Description
This set of cards provide a powerful and creative way of children working on their multiplication and division facts supported by an array image.
Each triangle has the multiplicand, multiplier and the product in its vertices. It also has the slavonic abacus array image of the product in the centre.
The slavonic abacus splits each factor into 5s in both directions – creating ‘mini products’ for children to visualise and reason about.
These cards should be printed out, cut up and then laminated for longevity.
Ideas for Use:
1: Trading Games – children each take a triangle and trade with others. Play the ‘Cover Up’ game where a child places a finger over one of the numbers and challenges their partner to state which number is covered up and reason why.
2: Table Games – children work with a partner and a set of triangle cards.
3: What’s in the image? Children reason about the product from the image. Note: Can they reason about the ‘mini’ products (e.g. 5 x 7 = 5 x 5 + 5 x 2)
4: Support the use of these triangles with the Times-Table Bookmarks.
