This set carefully designed 100 square featuring animals from the Number Fun video presentations.
This 100 square equips children to explore:
1) Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication & Division
2) Fractions, Decimals and Percentages
3) Ratio and Proportion
4) Area, Perimeter and Co-ordinates
Through careful questioning and problem posing, children are drawn into the mathematics behind the Number Fun Zoo!
Ideas for Use:
1: Reasoning – ‘What do you notice?’ Allow children to explore the Number Fun Zoo and talk about the things they notice.
2: Word Problems and What if? scenarios: Suggest a word problem to the children, followed by ‘What if?’ scenario. E.g. Fencing costs £7 per metre and each box on the grid represents 1 square metre, how much will it cost to replace the fencing in both elephant pens? What if the pens were combined? What if each box represents 4 square metres?
3: Problem Posing – Encourage children to make up their own word problems for other children to work out. E.g. how many more frogs are there than spiders? What is ratio of frogs to spider? etc.
