Preparation:
Print out, laminate and cut to size to create your own Base 10/Dienes story manipulatives.
Top Tip 1: Print on both sides of the paper so the imagery is seen whichever way the paper is turned up.
Top Tip 2: Take a screenshot of the logs to use on your interactive whiteboard.
Ideas for Use:
1: Place Value: Representation of a number.
2: Calculating: Use the representations on a Place Value grid to model calculation stories. Check out Papa Titioning’s calculation song videos on the Number Fun website that utilise this imagery.
3: Regrouping: Children exchange 10 of the smaller unit for one of the next larger unit as a visualisation of regrouping.
4: Story creation: Children use the logs as a picture to accompany their reasoning and creativity.
