Description
This pack includes pictures of Place Value Counters (from millions to 0.001s) inside a 10s Frame.
Pages 2 to 6 contain cards that represent millions through to thousands.
Pages 7 to 11 contain cards that represent hundreds through to tenths.
Page 12 to 15 has cards that represent hundredths & thousandths, plus ‘exchange’ cards that show 10 of one suit is equivalent to 1 in another.
The cards are deliberately arranged so pages can be printed out to create a giant Gattegno Grid.
Ideas for Use:
1: Gattegno Grid – print each page but do not cut into individual cards. Instead, cut around the outside and piece together a big, pictorial Gattegno Grid (see image in the Number Fun Shop).
2: Reasoning Challenges – e.g. children are dealt 2 cards and they reason how they might get from one card to another? (e.g. For cards 7 & 4000 (1) multiply 7 by 1000 then subtract 3000 (2) subtract 3 from 7 and multiply by 1000 (3) Divide 4000 by 1000 and then add 3 (4) add 3000 to 4000 and then divide by 7)
3: Standard Card Games – children play games such as: Higher and Lower, Old Maid, pairs etc.
4: Trading Games – children each take a card and trade with others. At each trade they e.g. calculate the total and difference between their cards.
